OUR NEIGHBORHOOD

The New York Times writes:

The neighborhood’s name evokes early America, as do the breathtaking views of the Palisades, untouched by development. Spuyten Duyvil, which roughly translates from the Dutch as “in spite of the Devil” or “spitting Devil,” according to the New York Public Library, is believed to refer to the strong currents that occur where the two rivers meet. Another landmark is Edgehill Church, built in the late 19th century by the owners of the Johnson Iron Foundry for its workers.

Paul's Park is a unique playground on the corner of Kappock and Independence, dedicated to the under 4 year old set, the park is stocked with baby bouncers, tricycles, scooters, ride-on toys, push toys, and other toys, kept here for public use.

In contrast to the manmade world, Riverdale Park offers its neighborhood natural wonders that delight all five senses.  From the sight of brightly plumed birds to the feel of several species of tree bark or the muted sound of a river's flow, Riverdale Park is a spot waiting to be discovered and prized.
